Rebuilding our Home: Website Renovations are Underway!

Rebuilding our Home: Website Renovations are Underway!

Major website renovations are happening, with big changes already in place and more to come in the near future.

Our website goals are to modernize everything, increase our outreach, and focus on helping website visitors quickly connect with all the animals that need homes (that means lots of photos and links to individual pet listings).

Here’s some of what we’ve done so far:

 — The overall website design has been updated so it works great on desktop computers as well as tablets and smartphones.

 — An automatically advancing slideshow now appears on the homepage with big close-up pictures of animals.  Visitors can also manually advance through the slides by clicking on the arrows or, if they’re using a tablet or smartphone, swipe left and right to move through all the photos.

 — Two “Featured Pets” can be chosen to be highlighted on the homepage.

 — “Our Newest Friends” section on the homepage lists the 8 most recently added pets from our Petfinder listings.

 — “All Our Pets page connects more deeply to Petfinder, allowing visitors to browse all our pets in our Petfinder listings, view all their pictures, bookmark individual pets, and sort by cats/dogs/breed.

 — “HSSSC Latest News” is featured the homepage as series of blog posts, making it much easier for us to post updates. Visitors can comment on each post and optionally subscribe to receive automatic email updates whenever we add something new (just look for the red SUBSCRIBE button on the right side of every page).

All our pages (including individual pet listings) have social media sharing buttons, making it easier for people to share information on our website with more people online.

 — Our Facebook page is very active and a critical part of our online strategy, so we’ve added a new Facebook section on the right side of all pages to highlight it and show the world how many wonderful people have “liked” us.  We’ve also wired things up so that whenever we post a new entry in “HSSSC Latest News,” it will be automatically posted to our Facebook group too.

Stay tuned for more updates and improvements in the near future.

In the meantime, please leave a comment below and let us know what you think about the website so far (and perhaps what you’d like us to do next).
